Blog #2

First, I would give the basics of the story: A young boy with no real friends meets an alien who has been stranded on earth…they have no one. The two form a bond with each other and work together to get the alien home safely. They face obstacles including illness and adults who want to study the alien, rather than send him home.

I would then point out similar films that have done well in the recent past: Star Wars films and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

I would end with mentioning that Steven Spielberg, the guy who directed Raiders of the Lost Ark, Close Encounters of the Third Kind , and Jaws had the idea for the story and is on board to direct.

discussion questions:

1. What is the most important part of a pitch? Why?

2. Would how you pitch a film vary according to genre?

Bringing up the fact that Spielberg would be directing is a very wise decision. This would definitely reassure the board due to his previous success.

The most important part of the pitch is to get the listener interested in the material from the start of the pitch.
