If I were pitching A Boy’s Life I would start by going over the basic story. I would start by describing a picture of the scene in the Redwood forest where the spaceship lands. Then quickly go over how ET is left behind and how Elliot finds him. Then I would emphasize the bond that forms between ET and the family while he lives there. Also I would talk about the special bond that forms between ET and Elliot. Then quickly go over the rest of the story of why and how they are able to get ET back home. When going over they story I emphasis the part where ET forms a bond with the family because I think that is when the audience also begins to relate and become emotionally attached to the characters. After going over the story I would then discuss the fact that this is a family movie that could be enjoyed by both the old and the young. Thus this film would have a large audience. At this point I would also point out that since children would enjoy this film there is money to be made from making toys and such to go along with this film.

Questions:
In a pitch are you supposed to just tell the story or can you emphasize and point out certain emotions that you think would catch the audience?
Could you explain what the main point in the last part of the Sternburg reading about the Stylistic Paradigm is?

  1. I think you should do more than just provide a synopsis of the plot, I would try to emphasize certain areas and who I thought they would appeal to, with media going the way it is now I would also try to show how it might be tied into online media or television. though for some reason I was not able to do that for this one, all I could come up with was just rehashing the plot.
