Blog #3 - The Apartment by Billy Wilder

I saw Sunset Blvd. film by Billy Wilder years ago. It was brilliant as it builds up in a psychological way without horror or gruesome like Alfred Hitchcock's which is excellent for its film-noir feel.

When I read the script of The Apartment I smiled and laughed. I am going to rent The Apartment on DVD from BlockBuster Video this weekend and see its comparison to the script. It was well-developed and detailed screenplay. Nevertheless I like the way Billy Wilder wrote as to Jack Lemmon's character Bud work late and explain that he couldn't go home even if he wanted to made me curious as to why he couldn't go home, maybe he has his apartment fumigated or his significant other waiting for him to come home and he doesn't want to deal with it. As I continue reading I found out Bud's apartment is being used as a shag pad for his male friends who happened to be married and Bud simply let them use it as he gradually exploited them in advancing his career as an insurance agent.

I agree with several blogs that the script is easily to read and enjoyable much less to the novel as it's fast-paced.

1. Good God. Why the hell Three to Tango was made? It totally ripped off The Apartment. Mistakenly believe Oscar is gay the boss asks him to keep tabs on his mistress then Oscar falls in love with her. Bud falls in love with his best friend's wife. My question is would it be possible if the scene where Bud attempts to commit suicide were deleted, would the film would be successful?

2. Isn't love the form of suicide?
