A Boy's Life Blog

A Boy's Life was an eye opening experience for me. Over the course of reading the script, I learned the importance of a script. The script is the foundation for the movie. It has all the bare bones essentials on the page for the director and his/her team to interpret it. It is essential that the reader is able to interpret the material in their head, if not, they will struggle with the reading. Non-professional readers may struggle with this aspect, causing scripts to gravitate towards a reader with a more interpretive mind for cinema.

I did not struggle with the reading. I found it a simple read once I determined the pace of each scene. Once a pace was determined, then the scene flows smoothly because it is read accordingly. I visualized each scene in my head causing a greater enjoyment in the material. On a side note, I believe the title change from A Boy’s Life to E.T., created a more interesting movie for advertising purposes. Overall, I enjoyed the material very much.

Questions:

1. What do you think of changing the script due to censorship issues?
2. What effect did the change of title from A Boy’s Life to E.T. have on you?
