Pitching "A Boy's Life"

I would go about pitching “A Boy’s Life” first by establishing the genre of the picture or by creating a clear context of the story. I would give a little background on the story such as location, some character details and who the film would appeal to. I would proceed to give a brief chronological description of the story and its events with clear, vivid words. For example, “…and as the silhouette of the deformed figure of the creature awkwardly scampers through the brush and darkness, we see the gigantic, flashy ship speed overhead and back into space, standing the creature”.

Then, I would continue my pitch by highlighting some key attributes of “A Boy’s Life” as a story. I would describe the sentimental bond that forms between Elliot and E.T. and elaborate on the similarities between the characters. Both Elliot and E.T. are characters who, at this point in time, feel ‘alienated’ in their surroundings. E.T. is literally out of place in this environment and Elliot has difficulties fitting in amongst his peers. I would try to sell the project based on the charm of the story and the relation of the audience to the characters.

Discussion Q’s:

1) In your opinion, what is the most important factor to remember while pitching an idea?

2) What genre would be most preferable for you to pitch?
