Discussion Q's

1. In my opinion, The Apartment has an idealistic controlling idea. Does this type of romantic comedy story usually make a better idealistic controlling idea, or could the quality of the screenplay have been improved if the ending were changed to make it a more ironic controlling idea?

2. What is the significance of the "Four Levels of Images" that Weston talks about? I understand that each 'level' is supposed to represent different perspectives of people interpreting images through their own free-association, but it seems like they would all fall under the "First Level: the images in the text, and our free-associations with them." Is there anything significantly different among the other three that I may be missing? It just seems unnecessary to separate it into four categories.
