Blog 7 Boogie Boogie

After reading the script for Boogie Nights, I couldn’t help but think about the difference between the styles of Paul Thomas Anderson and William Goldman. Mr. Anderson tended to use many more technical details than Mr. Goldman does. However, I would have to agree that the technical details could be a bit distracting from time to time. I, being an avid reader, prefer to be able to visualize the story being told without too many technical details. Mr. Goldman writes more like this than Mr. Anderson. However, for those who like being able to visualize it shot by shot without using their imaginations Paul Thomas Anderson embraces this style. With camera movements built into the script, one can VERY EASILY see the film.
To answer Mr. Rossoff’s question regarding the sexual content, I would have kept it the way it was. I thought it had the right amount of sexual content.
1. How else can Mr. Anderson be compared with William Goldman or Charlie Kauffman? For those who have actually seen the film, how does the film itself compare with the shots as written in the script.
