Blog # 7 Boogie Nights

I enjoyed reading this script. However, the movie is far more entertaining. I don't think that the humor seen in the movie can be completely understood in the reading of the script. A lot of the humor, which is what made the movie great, was created by the actors and the director for production. The funniest parts in the movie were the sequences of the "Brock Landers" movies, but in the script I could not pick up on the humor that was instilled.
The script also had numerous scenes that did not make the cut of the movie. In fact the last 1/3 of the script was almost completely different from the movie. However, I do think that deleting the scenes that were deleted was a good thing. Most of the deleted scenes delved deeper into the downfall of the characters. And if they had been left in the film it might have been a little bit of an overkill.
I love the way that Anderson writes the screenplay. He leaves out a lot of unnecessary character description, scene description, character action, etc. that lots of screenplay authors use abundantly. I think this style of writing really gives a great level of spontaneity to the actors and director on set.

Discussion Questions:

1.) Is there anyone that has not seen the movie that found the screenplay extremely humorous? And what parts did you think were funny?

2.) Does anyone have incite as to what was the major charge against The Colonel? The screenplay nor the movie really say.

2. I think The Colonel's major charge would be child pornography. The only hint of that is the line:
"They're . . . so small and cute I can't help
myself, Jack. I can't help it when they're so
small and cute. I just want to watch, I don't do
anything, Jack. I've never touched one of them"
