In reading Kaufman’s Adaptation, I could tell it was written in a different style then the previous two scripts we read. In Adaptation, the writers Charlie and Donald Kaufman actually write themselves into the movie as the main characters Charlie and Donald Kaufman. I like the originality of Adaptation, and I have never seen another movie based on the making of a movie and having the writers actually write themselves into the movie. It is hard to separate what is fact from fiction since the movie involves real life people in actual circumstance. The way the script was written confused me at the beginning with the addition of written dialogue for the cinematographer and the A.D. Instead of camera direction in the script, Kaufman uses character direction. There is lots of voice over usage in the script. I like the fact that all three scripts we have covered in class use different writing styles but all where written very well and enjoyable.
1. Did you find Adaptation harder to read then the other two scripts?
2. Do you think more writers should write themselves into there scripts?
