When reading
Boogie Nights I enjoyed the fact that I was able to see the movie playing in my head without all of the descriptions and details. As I read the script I was able to see how I would film each scene, with the different shots and sets. The very limited details were helpful in setting up where the scene was taking place, but other than that Anderson left it very open for the look and feel. With the opening scene at the disco bar as I read the lines, characters' actions easily formed. I also thought it was a very well written screenplay since the personalities of the characters unfolded through their words instead of the actions, letting the director create actions for the characters based on the attitudes set up by Anderson.
1) was the script too graphic for you?
I did not consider the script to be too graphic since I knew what the film was about before hand and expected to read a graphic screenplay.
Discussion Questions:
1) Were you confused by Dirk being referred to as both Dirk and Eddie?
2) What were you expecting before actually reading the screenplay?
