Blog 7: The Old "in out, in out"

Boogie Nights is one of the few P.T. Anderson films that I enjoy. He is usually too arty for me but in Boogie Nights there’s a sense of flow to the whole film. Being that this is the first Anderson screenplay that I've read and having already seen the movie it was hard for me to get the character's faces (from the film) out of my head. Anderson uses camera movements in his screenplay which gives you the feeling that he knows exactly how he wants to shoot this story. In the story itself we find oddball characters that fit well in the 70s porn culture setting. I’ve never read another representation of that era, but would love another story up to this standard. Jack is a perfect print of many 'film' people that I've met while at VCC and UCF. Dirk is of course the character everyone roots for, but the ending is some what trouble some. I can't really accept it, but it by no means spoils the whole story. Dirk's character arc is low but still there, and all said I do enjoy the film much more, but only because I've grown to love it over the years.

Questions:
1. Do you feel that Dirk really changes?
2. Do you think that the 70s porn culture was represented well?
