Blog 8

At first, I was more than a little apprehensive about reading the script for Boogie Nights.  I have seen the movie, so I knew that the script was going to include graphic sexual scenarios.  I felt as if I was going to be reading a porno script.  Instead of finding a script filled with graphic sex and little else, I found that it was the humanity, the frailty of human nature that really got my attention, even with all the talk of Dirk’s, well, dick.  I found it fascinating that even with the all of the illicit sexual images portrayed in the text, the sadness of Dirk and the porno business itself shined through it all.  Although I felt pity for Dirk throughout the whole script, I felt especially sorry for him during the scene where he quits.  The image of a coked-out, out of control Dirk was heartbreaking, and the recording studio sequence that followed only intensified that feeling for me.

1.  How did you personally feel about Dirk's character?

2.  What do you think about the way the dialogue was written? Did you like it?  Why or why not?
