Now that the semester is over I have taken a nice long look at the Script Analysis class. I personally feel that a class in Script Analysis is useful for helping students to better understand the process of reading and picking out certain elements of a screenplay, as well as how to better set up a shot. However, I feel that there are many times when people go a little bit overboard when analyzing a screenplay, and pick up on 'hidden meanings' and subtext that isn't actually present. Sometimes a screenplay is written by a Screenwriter just to be an entertaining film. What I have learned from this class is how to read into characters, and it is easier to decide a what is a genuine realistic character as opposed to a phony character who acts completely unrealistic, and now when I watch films I focus mainly on the characterization.

Have any recommendations for scripts to read?
I think Hard Candy would be an interesting script to read because of how character driven it is. It is comprised of mainly only two characters, and the entire story relies on the motives and actions of the two characters.

Discussion Questions:
What was your favorite aspect of the class?

What do you think could be done differently in the class?
