Boogie Nights Response

This is my second favorite script, aside from Adaptation. After I read it, I re-watched the DVD and found some interesting differences. For instance, when Marky Wahlberg begs for forgiveness to Burt Reynolds at the end of the movie, it's supposed to be because he has no where else to go. In the script, he finds out his parents were killed in a car accident. But in the movie, he just goes right from the busted drug deal to Burt's house. And I don't think that was sold well at all, while it seemed perfectly illustrated in the script. Granted, its a 2 and a half hour movie and stuff had to be cut, but scenes like that are essential to the characters actions.

Even though the script is more detailed and graphic, I still dig the movie more. It's got an undeniable style to it. Some scenes go 3, 4 minutes without a cut, and it's pretty sweet stuff, especially with the soundtrack. It's unfortunate that it gets compared to Pulp Fiction, as I believe this is a better movie. I wish we watched this in class instead of the campy Witness.

Questions:

What's your favorite Paul Thomas Anderson movie?

Who's the most sympathetic character in the script? Who did you relate to most? Yes, you.
