Final Blog

Script Analysis is an essential class that focuses on one of the most important parts of film, the script. This class was my first exposure to screenplays and how to analysis them. The selections of scripts were diverse enough for me to gain a compressive idea of different styles of screenplays. The reading material from McKee, Weston, and Sternberg developed my skill to read a script properly and academically. Sternberg was the best reading in the class and something worth rereading. I learned how to structure plot, what works and doesn’t work, and why it doesn’t work. I have a greater appreciation for screenplay writers and it furthered my opinion that is an essential piece to filmmaking. Taking this class allowed me to quickly process stories into the screenplay format and do it correctly. While it has not affected how I watch films, it has however affected the way I read scripts and the way I dissect them.

Questions:

1. Was Sternberg the only academic writing?
2. Doesn’t McKee scare you?
