Story aside, which I loved, I thought that scriptwise, Boogie Nights was a great read. This and Sex, Lies and Videotape are how I believe all scripts should be written. They leave an incredible amount of room for the subtext and questions. These then lead to more believable performances, granted if the director is good. But I guess I have to take into consideration that both of these screenplays were written by their respective directors. With this Im guessing the subtext was snug in their minds. It seems that the writers who have no intention of directing put in the subtext in large doses. The only thing that bugs me as a reader is the camera angles, but since P. T. Anderson directed the film I usually just think of them as reminders to him as to what he may want to do. It is really only annoying when a writer uses them en mass as if telling the director what to do. But regardless I loved Boogie Nights and think the guys great, I liked There Will be Blood even more.

Discussion questions
1. Do you think that Anderson has a pretty good grasp of how to create a satisfying character?
2. Do you think the casting did the script and movie justice?
