If you’re going to be a film major, and hopefully (and I do mean hopefully) someday make it into the film industry, you need to know how to read a script. There’s no way around that. Knowing how to read a script the right way is important. You need to know not only what your character does, but why he or she does it. Doesn’t matter if you’re a director telling someone how they want a line to be read or acted out, or a camera man picturing the scene in your head so you can get that perfect shot in your head. You need to be able to read a script correctly.
I haven’t really watched films differently. After taking this class I’m kind of interested in reading some scripts from other movies. I also have tremendous respect for script writers now. Many put their entire lives into a piece. Sometimes it will get made. Most of the times it won’t be made. If it does get made, they will dramatically change it. That or even worse, they wont change a thing and someone else will get the credit that you don’t get.
Preguntas
1) Have any recommendations for scripts to read?
2) Can you think of a department in film production that you won’t need to read a script?
