The Apartment

After reading The Apartment, I thought it was incredibly clever and, yes, I did think it was creative. I have not read many stories or screenplays especially from the past that embraced so much infidelity and it kept me captivated and interested in how people of the day dealt with these situations that are very common. There were many things I enjoyed about the script. First of all, the characters were great. Each had a very distinct progression and individual development throughout the story, primarily Bud. In the beginning of the story it was clear that he was a complete push-over, but during the course of the story, he managed to take advantage of this and get further in life because of it. It was most interesting to see him come clean as well. Now looking through what many others wrote about their thoughts, I will have to disagree with the opinion that this was a Romance story. I believe this was actually a story of a man. Just a man going through life, trying to find love and success, with some strange incidents on the way. And plus, romance stories don't have as much cheating as much as this one does. Obviously, I enjoyed The Apartment very much and thought that many things were done right. However, as much as I liked the characters and their relationships in the story, I found it somewhat confusing at times due to How Many characters there were and really hard names to remember. But all in all, I thought it was great.

Discussion Questions:
1) This story has a very comical side to The Apartment that belongs to Bud and what it is used for at times. I would like to know if anyone else thinks the story or the comedy of the use of The Apartment would have been altered if the owner was actually a female, giving the key out to other females rather than a male (Bud)?

2) Did the amount of characters confuse anyone else at all at points?
