Blog #8

I believe that this class has provided a foundation for future film classes. Before taking Script Analysis, I had read very few screenplays from start to finish. Now, I have read several in addition to those required for the class. They are much less intimidating now that I know how to break down the scenes and how to identify and deal with things such as mysterious lines and subtext.  I will use what I have learned in this class when making films in the future, especially the concepts taught by McKee and Weston. As much as I didn't really like Story as a book, I have a feeling that I will be using the McKee method of breaking down a scene quite often. While I thought Sternberg was good for the course, I see the information I gathered from that source to be more facts to know than as having a practical application.

Discussion Questions:

1. Am I the only one who didn't mind Sternberg?
2. Which book/handout did you see as the most beneficial?

1. I liked Sternberg because it gave great insight on writing and a history lesson of film.

I think the Mamet handout was interesting. Perhaps a little too militant, but I took alot out of it and it will probably have a bigger influence on me than I can understand right now.
